nowbrum takes over the old rep -three days of live performance, music, visual arts & film- From 1 March, The Old Rep will be the base for Southside Producers as they present NowBrum 2017, three days of live performance, music, visual arts and film celebrating the past, present and future of our city, through new and multidisciplinary works created by some of Birmingham’s young and emerging artists. NowBrum launches on Wednesday 1 March with a series of new works created by Birmingham based young artists ahead of the New Work Night headline performance, Happy Hour by award-winning Tmesis Theatre, a fast paced physical comedy exploring our 21st century obsession with happiness and success. The evening kick starts from 7pm with new work from young artists including a spoken word tribute to The Old Rep founder Sir Barry Jackson by Routes Theatre Company, from Birmingham School of Acting; a short work in progress from Ignition Birmingham a group of young men who met through world leading physical theatre company Frantic Assembly’s Ignition talent development programme at The Old Rep; and the launch of the FutureWorks collaboration, which will see six emerging artists making a new performance in just three days, premiering this new work on Saturday 4 March. Throughout the week young people can take part in workshops and Q&A sessions with established organisations such as Creative England, the National Youth Theatre and Beatfreeks. Audiences can also enjoy the newest talent in the City during the festival with live music from Feature Sessions, and new performance from Glitch Theatre and Gritty Theatre. To support young people to see these new shows and take part themselves, Southside Producers and The Old Rep – with support from Arts Connect West Midlands - are offering 50 FREE tickets to young people aged 12 - 18 for each of the ticketed performances at The Old Rep which are part of the festival. All you need to do to claim your free ticket is call The Old Rep Box Office on 0121 359 9444 or email boxoffice@oldreptheatre.co.uk with your name, age and a contact phone number. Chris Sudworth, Executive Director at The Old Rep said: “The Old Rep prides itself on being a venue that enables young people to truly take the lead. Southside Producers is a group of young leaders based at The Old Rep that anyone can join and I’m delighted they have programmed and are hosting NowBrum 2017. It’s a really exciting mix of performance, workshops and live arts from some brilliant young creatives, as well as featuring Tmesis Theatre, one of the UK’s leading physical theatre companies. It’s going to be a dynamic week which we hope will inspire more young people to get creative.” Kyron Greenwood of Southside Producers said: “We wanted to create a festival that reflected on our past and present and explores what that might mean for our collective future. We want to raise the profile of Birmingham and its young artists and we think NowBrum 2017 does just that. We hope more young people are inspired by NowBrum 2017 and are excited to be working alongside fellow young creatives, as well as established companies, to continue to develop all of our skills. Come down and see us from Wednesday 1 to Saturday 4 March to find out more.” For further information about the full NowBrum 2017 programme from 1 – 4 March and Tmesis Theatre’s Happy Hour on 1 March, or to book tickets, call the Box Office on 0121 359 9444 (open 11am-6pm Tue-Fri, 1pm-6pm Sat) or visit oldreptheatre.co.uk (online booking fee applies).
